Monday, February 28th, 2011

As we conclude Black History Month and the list of Haute Kits.. we would like to honor our first lady Michelle Obama.  This is history in the making right now!  First Lady, wife, mother, daughter and fashion icon, she is  an inspiration to us all.  We all have a “Michelle”  in our lives pushing us to achieve.. whether it’s our own mothers, aunts, grandmothers, or the little old lady next door (lol).  Let’s continue to blossom in this lucky new year and honor the heroines of our past : )

Happy Black History Month!

Haute Kit: Oprah!

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

How can we make a list of inspirational women and not include Oprah??  Say what you want.. but this remarkable kit built an empire from virtually nothing but wit and personality.  With good judgement, Oprah has created multi-million dollar deals and endorsements via various outlets.  Her biggest project to date is the ever-so-addicting “O” network.. (Oprah Winfrey Show times a trillion).  Get it O! Sorry couldn’t help myself <3

Haute Kit: Robin Givhan!

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

“Besides, she looks bad—not by the hand of God but by her own. She took fashion—which speaks in riddles, hyperbole and half-truths—at its word, imbibing all of those references to the ’70s and ’80s, taking styling cues from Versace ads in which models are made up as if by a mortician’s assistant, believing the magazines when they said that blue eye shadow was back. She failed to think for herself. Why should anyone trust her?” – Robin Givhan

Having the ability to bash one’s counterpart with imagination, a few visionary adjectives and some punchlines… oh how I love thee!  Princeton University graduate and Pulitzer Prize winner, Robin started her career working for Vogue and Detroit Free press, however spent a decade working with Washington Post.  Currently she writes for Newsweek and the Daily Beast, where she can keep us posted on the Who, What, Wear and Why.
